| The procession of the Holy Burial
The Guild known as "Real y Muy Ilustre Cofradía del Santo Sepulcro de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo" organizes, since immemorial times, the solemn and dignified Procession of the Holy Burial, during God Friday´s evening. At half past seven in the evening, the solemn parade leaves from the Church of San Bartolomé-Santa María, to carry forward the ancestral rite of leading Our Lord to the Sepulchre. This traditional procession can be considered as a classic one among all the Passion-allusive processions in Murcia. All the traditional Holy Week elements can be seen within this parade: the nazarenes in their short dresses, the quaint stockings, the sweets...But, at the same time, it owns a solemn and penitential condition, that makes this parade a unique and unmistakeable procession, showing how tradition and spirituality can join together in harmony. The procession itself consists of six brotherhoods: Brotherhood "Hermandad de la Cruz Guión", Brotherhood "Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo de Santa Clara la Real", Brotherhood "Hermandad de la Virgen de la Amargura", Brotherhood "Hermandad del Santo Sepulcro", Brotherhood "Hermandad de San Juan", Brotherhood "Hermandad de la Virgen de la Soledad". This parade is the official procession in the city of Murcia, reason why, at the end of the aforementioned parade, the attendance can see a representation of all the Passion-allusive Guilds, as well as the Civil, Military and Ecclesiastic authorities. Some recommendable
places to attend the procession are the leaving from the Church at half
past seven in the evening and, subsequently, the return to the quarter
and the entry into the Church (by quarter to eleven), where a great crowd
attend quietly this final act in the commemoration of the Passion and
Death of Our Lord, turned into feeling and emotion, in accordance with
the religious nature of the people in Murcia. |
